How to use Loomio

These instructions were written to help panellists learn how to use Loomio, which is the platform we will use to conduct the review of the submissions.

  1. You will receive an email from inviting you to join a panel. Click on Accept invitation in the email and you will be taken to Loomio.
    • You can use the link in the email to log back in to Loomio in the future. You can also just visit, enter your email and then, after a few seconds, enter the code that will be emailed to you.
  2. Dependent on how long it has been since you last logged in, you may be asked to sign in with email. You’ll be sent an email with a code which you enter into Loomio to authenticate yourself.
  3. After signing in, you will be presented with a view of the “threads” in your panel.
  1. Each submission has its own thread. The thread starts with the text from the submission and then is followed by space for the reviewers to leave their comments.
  2. If you click on a thread, it will display all of the comments from the reviewers in your panels
  1. You can reply to any of the comments in the thread
  1. As the conversation progresses, your panel chair might invite you to vote on an issue, such as whether a submission is valid, or whether the submission should win the panel or receive a highly commended
  1. To add a new comment, just scroll to the the bottom of the thread
  1. Enter your comment and click on “post comment”. You edit and delete your own comments, but not other people’s.
  2. To change your Loomio settings, to look at recent activity on your panel, and to get more information (for example, discussion threads you have yet to read), click on the hamburger menu in the top left of the page to reveal the side panel
  1. To get back to the main panel with all the submissions, click the appropriate links in the side panel
  1. The sign out link is found in the top left of the page
  1. We set up the Hidden-REF-Test Loomio site for panellists to try out Loomio without the fear of breaking anything! Feel free to log into the site, and post and edit comments.
  2. If you have any problems with Loomio, please get in touch with your panel advisor or with
