Research methods are a “foundational” output that should have their own dedicated section for submission to the Research Excellence Framework, a conference has heard.
Speaking at the Hidden REF Festival in Birmingham on 8 October, Emma Ganley (pictured), director of strategic initiatives at the method-sharing platform protocols.io, said she had been “astonished…to realise that there is no submission specifically for methods on their own” to the REF. She described methods as a “foundational, but very often unappreciated, research output”.
