24th March at 11:00 GMT: Recognising Research Differently: From Reflection to Action

Community share slot – Submit a practical idea or example to share (2 minutes)
Join us for the second Hidden REF Community Call – a space to build on what we heard last time and explore what comes next.
In our first call, participants shared reflections on hidden research labour, not-traditionally submitted outputs, risk aversion, and the challenges of recognising the full range of contributions that sustain research. This session will open with a short recap of those themes, before turning toward practical action as we look ahead to this year’s Hidden REF competition.
Together, we’ll explore how we can better embed recognition into our everyday practices, institutions, and networks – and what support or confidence people need to engage more fully.
As always, this is an open community space. Alongside focused prompts, there will be room to discuss anything and everything connected to Hidden REF and research culture – questions, ideas, experiments, frustrations, and opportunities.

We’re also inviting members of the community to briefly share practical ideas, approaches, tools, examples or experiences that might help others in recognising and valuing hidden research contributions. A small number of 2-minute slots will be available during the call. If you’d like to share something, please complete the short form by 13th March so we can plan the agenda depending on interest.
Whether you’re a researcher, technician, professional services colleague, leader, student, or simply interested in fairer recognition in research, your perspective is welcome.
Let’s move from insight to action – and shape what comes next, together.
