The Hidden REF White Paper
April 8, 2024The Hidden REF Competition 2024 is waiting for your submission!
July 5, 2024The Research team at Bath Spa first became aware of the Hidden REF in 2021 when we nominated our impact team and our repository librarians for the hidden role categories for their hard work in preparing our Impact Case Studies, and developing creative practice portfolios and outputs details for our submission to REF2021. The nomination certificates are proudly displayed on our office wall at our beautiful home at the Corsham Court campus, near Bath.
Bath Spa University are delighted to support the Hidden REF 5% manifesto which asks HEIs in the UK to commit to submitting at least 5% of their submissions to REF 2029 as non-traditional research outputs. We are proud to be the first institution to sign up to the manifesto.
In REF 2021, 24% of the outputs submitted by Bath Spa University were ‘non-traditional’, most of these were portfolios of practice research created by researchers in Music, Performing Arts, Art, Film, Media and Creative Writing.
Almost all the portfolios that Bath Spa submitted to the REF were made Open Access to ensure that our practice researchers’ work is showcased permanently and available for anyone to view via our institutional repository, BathSPAdata.
Bath Spa University also organises the annual nationwide online conference, ‘Capturing Creativity’, which takes place each year in September, and which supports the sharing of best practice in terms of recording and showcasing practice research portfolios and submission of these to the REF.
